A new study by UK scientists showed that cooking carrots whole preserves their anti-cancer properties better than cooking them sliced or diced. The study was the work Dr Kirsten Brandt and researcher Ahlam Rashed at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne and is being presented today at the NutrEvent nutrition and health conference that is taking place in Lille, France.

A lung cancer treatment that inhibits nicotine receptors was shown to double survival time in mice, according to Italian researchers. The results of the early phase animal model study were reported in the June 15 issue of the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine. Changes in genes encoding nicotine receptors are strongly associated not only with the tendency to smoke, but with susceptibility to lung cancer.

Neurological diseases including Parkinson’s, Tourette’s, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Alzheimer’s, and schizophrenia are all associated with alterations in dopamine-driven function involving the dopamine transporter (DAT). Research published recently in the open access journal BMC Neuroscience suggests that a number of estrogens acting through their receptors affect the DAT, which may explain trends in timing of women’s susceptibility to these diseases.

Running is considered to be the fastest way for someone to move on foot. It is defined as a sport as a gait. This means that when someone runs there is a point in which both feet are off the ground at the same time. Running and jogging can be a form of both anaerobic and aerobic exercise.

Running and jogging burns a total of fifty percent more calories then walking as a form of exercise. When you walk there is always contact with the ground. A walker’s legs are kept straight while the center of gravity rests along the top of the legs. In comparison a runner is actually jumping from foot to foot. As a runner is jumping from foot to foot this is burning more calories by the movement of the feet alone.

There are several benefits to running and jogging. Before we discuss the benefits of each we should first define the difference between running and jogging. A runner is someone that usually does not run for exercise but instead for speed. Many runners are training for a marathon or a triathlon. These types of runners are driven to go long distances in the fastest time possible. This type of running tends to be more goals orientated.

Jogging is considered to be a casual form of runner. A jogging is not only running to stay in shape but to have fun. Often times a jogger runs with a group of people and makes exercise more of a social event. Jogging is recommended for people who want to lose weight.

Running and jogging have several of the same benefits. Both are known to improve an individual’s cardiovascular system. This is terrific for people who have a family history of heart disease or other cardiovascular diseases. Another effect of running is that running burns around five to fifteen percent of calories taken in per hour. This is perfect for someone who wants to trim their thighs, hips and abdomen.

Another effect to running and jogging is that both are a great form of exercise that tone and strengthen muscles. This is a fast way to get and stay in shape. Runners and joggers also experience many mental effects.

When a person runs or jogs they feel happier and more self confident. This is a terrific form of exercise that improves ones body and body image. Also, when someone the body release natural endorphins that act as antidepressants. These are some of the effects of running and jogging.
